Supply and Distribution of Chickens – VOH Project Tender at Dufatanye Organization
Background
Dufatanye Organisation, in partnership with the Suyana Foundation, is implementing the Village of Hope (VOH) Project in Nyanza and Nyaruguru Districts with the objective of reducing malnutrition, enhancing food security, and strengthening household resilience. As part of the project’s nutrition and livelihoods component, 578 vulnerable households in the new villages (Nyamiseke and Rasaniro) will receive small livestock (chicken) to improve dietary diversity through egg consumption and increase access to organic manure for improved agricultural
production.
The targeted households are distributed as follows:
To support sustainable nutrition and agricultural practices, each household will receive two (2) laying hens and one (1) cock, equivalent to a total of 1,734 chickens across all beneficiaries. The provision of poultry is expected to contribute directly to improved household nutrition through regular egg production and indirectly through the use of chicken manure to enhance soil fertility and crop yields. This activity forms a key component of the VOH project’s long-term strategy to empower households with practical, livelihood-enhancing resources while addressing chronic malnutrition in rural communities.
2. Purpose of the tender
Dufatanye Organisation invites qualified and reputable suppliers to submit competitive quotations for the supply and distribution of healthy, mature, and fully vaccinated chickens to the beneficiary households targeted under the Village of Hope (VOH) Project. The procurement aims to ensure that all 578 households receive productive birds capable of contributing to improved nutrition through egg production, as well as supporting sustainable agriculture through the provision of organic manure. Suppliers are therefore required to provide chickens that meet high quality, maturity, and veterinary standards to ensure their immediate and long-term benefit to the households.
In addition to supplying the birds, the selected provider will be responsible for the safe transport and direct distribution of 1,734 chickens (two laying hens and one cock per household) to families living in Nyamiseke and Rasaniro. Delivery must be completed within the scheduled period in January 2026. Dufatanye Organisation seeks dependable suppliers who demonstrate strong experience, adequate capacity, and professionalism, ensuring that the birds are delivered in good health and handled according to best practices throughout the procurement and distribution process.
3. Scope of work
The successful bidder will be expected to supply a total of 1,156 laying hens and 578 cocks, ensuring that each of the 578 beneficiary households receives two laying hens and one cock. All birds must be delivered in excellent condition; healthy, disease-free, and fully vaccinated to guarantee their suitability for immediate integration into household production. The supplier will be required to put in place appropriate measures for poultry handling, health verification, and quality assurance throughout the procurement and delivery process.
In addition to supplying the birds, the selected provider will be responsible for transporting and distributing the chickens directly to all 578 households, ensuring that each family receives the correct allocation. Delivery is scheduled to take place during the second week of January 2026, and the entire distribution must be completed within one week. This will require careful planning, reliable transport arrangements, and close coordination with Dufatanye Organisation to ensure timely, safe, and efficient distribution to the targeted communities.
