Job Summary
The Data Manager and Statistician plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timely reporting of health data at the health center level. This position supports evidence-based decision-making, monitors key performance indicators, and contributes to service delivery improvement through robust data management and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
1. Health Data Collection & Validation
- Ensure complete and accurate data collection from all service points (e.g., OPD, ANC, maternity, HIV, immunization, family planning).
- Utilize national tools such as HMIS, SISCom, EMR, and official registers.
- Perform routine data validation by identifying and correcting errors, duplications, and missing data in collaboration with clinical staff.
2. Data Entry and Management
- Enter data into digital platforms such as HMIS, DHIS2, and EMR.
- Maintain updated and organized digital and physical data records.
- Secure data backup and enforce data storage protocols.
3. Data Quality Assurance (DQA)
- Conduct regular data verification, consistency checks, and triangulation.
- Lead or support DQA activities as per Ministry of Health or partner standards.
- Build staff capacity in data quality improvement.
4. Data Analysis and Interpretation
- Analyze data to identify trends and create visual dashboards.
- Provide data insights to guide management decisions and improve performance.
- Track priority indicators such as immunization, ANC attendance, HIV testing and treatment, and malnutrition rates.
5. Reporting and Feedback
- Prepare and submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to the District Health Office, Ministry of Health, and partners.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness in reporting.
- Share feedback with service units to address gaps and enhance data use.
6. Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Support
- Monitor program indicators and service performance.
- Support the implementation of improvement plans and assessments.
- Participate in surveys and evaluations conducted at facility or community levels.
7. Training and Capacity Building
- Train staff on data collection tools, indicators, reporting procedures, and data ethics.
- Support onboarding of new staff on HIS tools and data responsibilities.
8. Coordination and Communication
- Collaborate with nurses, pharmacists, lab staff, social workers, and CHWs to strengthen data flow.
- Coordinate with District M&E officers and partners for supervision and technical guidance.
9. Confidentiality and Data Security
- Ensure confidentiality and integrity of all patient and health program data.
- Implement data security measures such as password protection and role-based access control.
10. Support to Planning and Resource Allocation
- Use statistical data to inform planning, forecasting, and allocation of resources.
- Assist health center leadership in identifying service gaps and intervention priorities.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (A0) or Advanced Diploma (A1) in Statistics, Health Information Systems, Public Health, or related field.
- Experience with data systems such as DHIS2, EMR, and Excel is highly preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- High level of integrity and professionalism in handling health data.
