EAUR is seeking qualified and experienced professionals to join its team in the following positions.

CHIEF ACCOUNTANT

1 Position

Job Summary

The Chief Accountant will oversee the University's accounting and financial operations, supervise accounting staff, maintain accurate financial records, prepare financial reports, strengthen internal controls, and ensure compliance with financial policies and applicable accounting requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting and financial operations.
  • Ensure financial transactions are accurately recorded, properly authorised, and adequately supported.
  • Supervise preparation and maintenance of ledgers, journals, invoices, receipts, payment vouchers, and other financial records.
  • Supervise and review the work of accounting and finance staff.
  • Identify training and professional-development needs within the finance team.
  • Prepare and/or oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Prepare financial statements and management accounts.
  • Analyse financial results, trends, and budget variances and advise management accordingly.
  • Ensure financial records are complete, accurate, properly organised, and securely maintained.
  • Monitor income, expenditure, receivables, payables, assets, and liabilities.
  • Oversee revenue collection and recovery of outstanding balances.
  • Participate in preparation of annual budgets and monitor expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Establish and monitor effective internal financial controls.
  • Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and proper authorisation of expenditure.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits and respond to audit queries.
  • Monitor cash balances, banking transactions, payments, and bank reconciliations.
  • Oversee accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Ensure proper financial control over University assets and inventory.
  • Prepare financial forecasts and analysis when required.
  • Lead the Finance and Accounting Department and promote professionalism, accountability, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Report significant financial risks, irregularities, control weaknesses, or suspected financial misconduct to management.
  • Perform other financial, accounting, or administrative duties assigned by management.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master's degree in Accounting or a closely related field, as specified in the vacancy announcement.
  • Relevant professional accounting qualification/experience is an advantage.
  • Previous senior-level accounting and financial-management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, audit, and accounting operations.
  • Strong analytical, leadership, and decision-making skills.
